When a beloved pet companion dies, children often experience grief in ways that are confusing, emotional, and difficult to express. For many families, it can also be hard to know what to say, how to explain the loss, or how to help a child feel safe while navigating their emotions.
This guidance session is designed for parents, caregivers, or trusted adults who want thoughtful support in helping a child understand and process the loss of a beloved pet.
During this session, we will talk through the child’s age, personality, and the circumstances surrounding the loss, and explore gentle ways to communicate about grief that feel honest, reassuring, and developmentally appropriate.
Together we may discuss:
- How children experience and express grief at different ages
• Ways to talk about death and the Rainbow Bridge in a comforting and truthful way
• Helping children express sadness, confusion, or guilt
• Simple remembrance activities that allow children to honor their pet’s life
• Supporting ongoing conversations as the child continues to process the loss
This session is designed to help adults feel more confident, calm, and prepared when supporting a child during this tender time.
Children often take emotional cues from the adults around them. With a little guidance and understanding, families can create a space where children feel safe to grieve, remember, and celebrate the love they shared with their pet companion.
